Living Waters Ministry - Pine Mountain Kentucky

Living Waters is a 501c (3) charity endeavoring to serve the elderly, disabled, and disadvantaged in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. Their main focus is delivering food, toiletries, heaters, and other supplies that may be needed by the people they serve. When volunteers are available they also tackle small building projects such as handicap ramps and decks.

Twenty-five totes of food are delivered to Living Waters ministry in Pine Mountain KY. at least three times a year. In addition 200 pounds of frozen leg quarters ,100 pounds of ground beef and various other needed supplies are also donated.

Many thanks to all who participate in this project.

A Tote of Food ($60) will last them approximately one (1) month, depending on the size of the family. Living Waters is excited to distribute these reusable totes to their less fortunate elderly and struggling families.

The tote project will be an ongoing ministry. So, if you would like to make a monthly donation and ”sponsor a family” that would be greatly appreciated! Tax deductible monetary donations can be made here.

Hay Relief to North Carolina

In October of last year hurricane Helene ravished Western North Carolina. Residents describe the area affected as larger than the area of New Jersey. North Carolina is sometimes more noted for its flatlands and beaches rather than the mountainous area in the west. Mt Mitchell, the highest elevation in North Carolina, is over 6,000 feet. Locals refer to this mountainous area as the high country.

Hopefully that gives a perspective to the monumental effort it will take to help these folks recover from massive flooding, landslides and entire forest of wind damaged, tangled trees. Rough terrain and inaccessible roads make relief efforts a challenge.

“Collective action”  is a descriptive term that would illustrate the effort of In HIS Service and other groups we partnered with to deliver over 4,000 small square bales, round bales and silage bales to Leicester( pronounced lester) NC. This unified effort toward a common goal, is a recurring theme in the Bible, illustrating the power and importance of community in fulfilling God’s purposes. The Scriptures provide numerous examples where collective action is not only encouraged but also divinely orchestrated to achieve significant outcomes. Nehemiah and the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem is an Old Testament example.

Being able to interact with those donating and those receiving is always a blessing. The men and women of Pennsylvania and New York opened their hearts and resources to help the good ole boys in the hills 700 miles away. Its hard work stacking 700+ bales in a box trailer clear to the roof. Most farms had gathered all the hay in one location and had ample volunteers. Several times meals were provided and the story telling commenced. Different culture and different lifestyle on the receiving end but a gentle kindness not often seen in the complexity of society. They came down from the mountains and valleys and got hay in cars, pickups and vehicles that had seen many hard miles. Many stayed and help to load neighbors, friends and folks they had never met before, always with a smile and laughter. These folks weren’t looking for a handout but just a little help to take care of their animals they dearly love. They’re doing all right, many have lived in the mountains for generations, carving a small patch of land from the side of a mountain to call home. They’re proud of their heritage and you won’t see a lot of pictures. They want to be known as resilient and self sufficient. They prefer to be left alone by strangers but with a cowboy hat (complete with turkey feather), suspenders and a dog that protected the truck, I wasn’t a stranger but for a few moments. We worked, ate and laughed together and experienced the greatness of God through a truly “collective action”. To God be the glory.

Go Serve Global Safety Homes : Bloomsburg Fair 2025

In HIS Service has partnered with GoServ Global to construct and display a Sukup Safe T Home®. This home is a highly modified grain bin that is resistant to earthquakes, termites and moisture. These homes provide long- term housing or short- term relief for people in need around the world. More information about GoServ global and the Safe T Home® can be found here.

In HIS Service is in the process of diversifying the use of the Safe T Home® as a training tool for instructing young men and women in biblical life guiding principles, future mission opportunities and involvement in Christ centered humanitarian efforts. A 3-6 day program is envisioned where participants will be housed and provided for in a camp like setting while constructing a Safe T Home®. Speakers will share their stories of their life journeys and encourage the young people to develop their own stories emphasizing the importance of good instructional guidelines which are found in the Bible and mentorship of Christian leaders.

On day one the Safe T Home® is a jumbled pile of galvanized steel with little value until a plan is provided with diagrams and instructions as to what the jumbled mess can be transformed into becoming. Experienced builders will guide them through the instruction manual teaching communication, time management and inner-personal skills necessary to complete the project. After many hours of hard work and the correct placement of over 1,200 bolts a beautiful well designed structure capable of changing people’s lives will emerge and perhaps provide them with a feeling of accomplishment that they have not yet experienced.

The ultimate success of this experience is not the construction of a Safe T Home® but exposure to the life changing principles that Jesus teaches throughout the Bible and an opportunity for them to accept him as their Lord and Savior.

50 safety homes are now available for sale at $14,000 a piece (due to inability to ship to Haiti). For more information go to: goservglobal.org/safe-t-home/

Disaster Relief

In HIS Service partners with like minded organizations in responding to natural disasters around the country. These partnerships involve Eight Days of Hope who responded to flooding in our local town of Westfield Pa. in 2024. Civilian Disaster Relief of North Carolina, Fellowship of Christian Farmers and many other individuals assisted in sending hay and animal feed supplies to the mountains of North Carolina in the aftermath of hurricane Debbie. Donated campers were repaired and transported to those needing shelter after the storm. Lions clubs help cover the cost of transportation and identified those in need. Beds, mattresses and bedding was provided by Seeds of Hope, a local service organization, and shipped to Swannanoa NC, one of the hardest hit areas. In responding to disasters it is sometimes the non-governmental agencies that can respond the quickest and most effectively. This happens when people from all walks of life and innumerable talents combine their efforts and resources to assist those in need.

Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child

Bob Carpenter’s desire to assist in Operation Christmas Child 20 years ago has resulted in the formation of the Great Lakes OCC. The organization has grown from a few that travelled to the Charlotte , North Carolina processing center, to over 150 volunteers in 2023. These dedicated folks will spend a week receiving, inspecting, and cartonizing shoeboxes to be shipped around the world. These will be the first gifts that some children have ever received and opens up the door to show God’s love and introduce them to the free gift of salvation through “The Greatest Journey”.

Veterans

In HIS Service is currently involved with the veteran’s administration in identifying what services we may be able to provide to veterans in Tioga county Pennsylvania. We can perform minor home repairs, clean-up projects, build modular and wooden handicap ramps as well as other services that fall within the scope of our ministry. In September we leveled a motor home, replaced skirting and build a new ramp for a storage shed.
